About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Chemistry to lead our small molecule strategy and drive innovation in mitochondrial biology. This is a senior leadership role at the forefront of therapeutic discovery, focused on developing novel compounds targeting mitochondrial dysfunction across a range of diseases.
You will play a critical role in shaping scientific direction, leading chemistry programmes from early discovery through preclinical development, and building a high-performing team in a fast-growing biotech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all chemistry activities, including medicinal chemistry, compound design, and optimisation
- Define and execute small molecule strategies targeting mitochondrial pathways
- Drive programmes from hit identification through lead optimisation and candidate selection
- Collaborate closely with biology, translational, and external partners to advance pipeline projects
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing chemistry team
- Establish and manage relationships with CROs and external collaborators
- Contribute to overall R&D strategy and represent chemistry at the leadership level
- Ensure delivery of high-quality data to support preclinical development and regulatory progression
- Stay at the forefront of advances in mitochondrial science and drug discovery technologies
Requirements
- PhD in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related discipline
- Significant experience in small molecule drug discovery within biotech or pharma
- Proven track record of progressing compounds into preclinical or clinical development
- Strong background in medicinal chemistry and structure-based drug design
- Experience leading teams and managing cross-functional collaborations
- Knowledge or interest in mitochondrial biology or metabolic disease is highly desirable
- Strong leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills
